Kate Twomey, a quality assurance representative in Eli Lilly, Kinsale, grew up on the Old Youghal Road and first met her husband Ross McDonald from Ovens, who works as a materials management operator in Eli Lilly at their companies Christmas party in 2015. The pair had never met before but made a connection together at the Christmas party. Afterwards the couple were a little embarrassed and avoided each other in work until one day Ross asked Kate to go for a couple of drinks and the pair never looked back since. Sparks flew and their relationship blossomed, and on October 27, 2017 Ross proposed along a walk on the beautiful Dunquin Pier in Dingle. This beautiful proposal lead to an amazing wedding at St. Joseph’s Church on the Old Youghal Road and a fabulous reception at Fota Island Resort.
“While the whole day was amazing and filled with very special memories, my cousin Karen contacted the KC & Ross show on Cork’s 96FM to see if they could arrange a special congratulations message from Danny O’ Reilly in the Corona’s (I’m a huge Corona’s fan) and Karen was successful! KC & Ross called me the morning of the wedding to wish me luck and to play the congratulations message from Danny. They also sent the video to Karen which was shown to me and all the guests during the speeches”, shared Karen.
“I wore my late grandmother’s watch that she had given to me when I was a child which I had re-plated for the wedding. This was very sentimental to me as it was my something old, but very special”, remembers the beautiful bride.
How was your experience with Fota Island Resort?
“From the moment we met Katie about potentially holding our wedding at Fota, nothing was too much trouble. Katie and all the staff were such a help in the lead up to our day and were amazing on the day itself. The meal was beautiful and was highly complimented by all our guests. The function room looked absolutely stunning on the day. I loved how they has left personalised bride and groom robes with our names on them in the bridal suite as a keep sake. It‘s the little things that make such a different and make the occasion all the more special. I would recommend Fota to any bride and groom as a wedding venue. The service was second to none and they definitely made us feel very special“, remembered Kate.
