Mia Wang is from Qingdao in China and is the community manager at a Shanghai WeWork. David Hackett is a Corkman and a commerce and Chinese studies graduate from UCC and he moved to Shanghai, China with the Irish Distiller’s Jameson Graduate Programme in 2014. David and Mia met in a new Chinese fusion food store in Shanghai, in which Mia was involved in the set up of the store. David became a regular customer at the store which opened in the same building as his office, and it wasn’t long before the Cork man feel for the native beauty. The pair fell for each other and this budding love led to an adorable proposal.
“David proposed to me in my hometown of Qingdao on a sunny Sunday afternoon. We were having lunch to celebrate my mother’s birthday, when David surprised both me, and definitely my mother, with a proposal. The main course was served alongside a bottle of champagne and a small box, the box contained the engagement ring. At first, I thought the little box was a gift that comes free with the champagne and lunch package”, remembers Mia, who said yes once the shock wore off!
How was your experience at the Maryborough House Hotel?
“We would highly recommend The Maryborough as a wedding venue. We had both the ceremony and reception in the Maryborough and the service was exceptional. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had the best day possible. The guests also really enjoyed their stay there.”
