Elaine Duggan and Ricky Mahoney first met at a nightclub over ten years ago and their relationship has gone from strength to strength as time has progressed. During a discussion about marriage and weddings, the couple realised that their upcoming tenth anniversary, June 1, 2018, would be the perfect date to seal their love. “From there we called to enquire about the church in Gougane Barra as we had previously said that this would be the place we’d get married. It turned out the date was free and the rest was history,” Elaine recalls. Ricky officialised things the following Christmas by proposing to Elaine with an engagement ring, which sealed the deal for their upcoming nuptials. With the wedding date and ceremony venue set in stone, the couple chose the Castle Hotel in Macroom to host their reception.
Elaine recalls the high spirits and delight among her guests as particularly significant. “We had a very small wedding so the day was filled with sincere happiness from our guests. We really appreciated the efforts our friends and family went to, they travelled a long way to share our big with us,” she says. Elaine also recalls the faultless and spectacular service provided by each of their suppliers to be particularly significant in their day’s success.
Elaine recalls her father’s vocal performance of How Great Thou Art as a particular special sentiment for their special say. The hotel also accommodated for Elaine and her family to have breakfast in the bride’s room on the morning of the wedding, which really helped ease stress. In lieu of wedding favours, the couple opted to make donations on behalf of their guests to two charities close to their hearts, which was a very special and important addition to their day.
Any advice for brides planning their wedding?
“Soak up the build-up. Little things will happen but don’t sweat the small stuff as it all adds to your story. If possible take the week before the wedding off of work as I feel this helped me to be as relaxed as I was on the big day.
