A love story of almost two decades had its initial spark when Marilyn Linehan, originally from Mitchelstown, and EPS worker Michael Kelleher first met on a night out in Mallow town, where the couple now live together. “I was with a friend heading into a local nightclub and Michael was walking out. My friend knew him and invited him to come with us for a drink. He did a big U-turn and followed us back in and he has been following me ever since,” Marilyn recalls.

Despite how eager Michael was to get to know Marilyn from the offset, it was fourteen years and three children later before he popped the question at Mallow Castle.  “I nearly passed out, my thoughts were ‘I’m in a tracksuit and my nails aren’t done!’” Despite the shock, of course Marilyn said yes and the couple chose March 30, 2018 to tie the knot with a beautiful civil ceremony in the Charleville Park Hotel.

 The wedding team

The bride found her dream gown in Vows, located in Blarney Business Park. The couple opted to shop local for their wedding cake, choosing Gretta’s Cakes Mallow to bake the delicious confectionary.

Marilyn and Michael were very pleased with the service provided by the Charleville Park Hotel staff as well as the the presentation and décor of the reception. She expresses her gratitude for their care and hospitality, and highly recommends the venue to other couples in search of the perfect location.

Memorable moments

The bride also expresses the significance of her children’s role in her ceremony. “My son Jack did the Grace before and after the meal, it was very sentimental to both of us.” Marilyn says the couple’s shared highlight of the day was meeting all their guests after the ceremony and celebrating the day surrounded by their loved ones.

Personal touches

With Michael being an avid motorbike fan, it seemed only appropriate having the groom arrive to the hotel on his stylish Harley bike, followed by their son and biker crew. This theme was continued with Thunderstruck by ACDC playing as the couple entered their reception. The couple’s chosen entertainment, Mallow-native rock music duo Savage Cabbage also assisted in maintaining the heavy metal atmosphere of this hardcore celebration.

Marilyn personally appreciated and embraced the entire wedding planning process and encourages other brides-to-be to do the same. “Enjoy every single minute because it’s over in a blink of an eye,” she says.

How was your experience with the Charleville Park Hotel?

“We had visited Charleville Park Hotel on many occasions and we loved treating ourselves and the children to a night there. This is where we met Barbara our wedding planner. When Michael proposed we were straight onto Barbara in Charleville Park.  Nothing was too much trouble for her. When I first walked in to where our ceremony was taking place the room was breathtaking. Very well decorated with beautiful cherry blossom trees, lanterns and purple sashes. Barbara and her team took care of everything. I didn’t have to sweat the small stuff – she even put our wedding photo on the meal menus! We got engaged and were married within 6 months. It was a pleasure to organise our wedding with them.”

How was your experience with celebrant Liz Drew of Spiritual Ceremonies?

“Liz did an outstanding job. Upon a recommendation from our venue, we contacted Liz and she was a lovely lady who put me at ease from our first conversation. She rang me often, sometimes even just to ask how I’m feeling. Our ceremony was very special to us. It incorporated our family and friends. She was brilliant.”
